The Astropoetic Series is a collection of related books outlining an astropoetic approach to astrology as a language of soul. The series is the culmination of the author Joe Landwehr's life-long exploration of astrology as a pathway to a deepening experience of soul.
Astropoetics draws its inspiration, its rationale, and its imagery from a broad range of sources, including but not limited to number, astronomy, mythology, psychology, the wisdom teachings from all traditions, poetry, literature, music, art, film, other dimensions of contemporary culture, and especially from the poetic nuances of everyday experience, both individual and collective.
The Seven Gates of Soulis a precursor to The Astropoetic Series, outlining a 6000-year history of ideas about the soul as a foundation for the developing of a cogent language of soul. The Astropoetic Series itself will include the following volumes:
Astropoetics differs from traditional astrology as follows:
- While traditional astrology understands the birthchart to be a signature of fate, astropoetics understands fate to be an elaborate opportunity for the evolution of consciousness, which impacts the individual soul in highly idiosyncratic ways.
- While traditional astrology is largely a matter of rationally decoding signs that have become shorthand notation for known qualities, astropoetics seeks to discover unknown sensory, emotional, psychological, mythological and spiritual correlates to symbols, and the images that embody these correlates.
- While traditional astrology tends to understand the birthchart as a static description of personality undergoing a series of discrete events, astropoetics instead views it as descriptive of a process that deepens and transmutes in cyclical time as cumulative awareness is brought to bear upon the process.
